These had been thoroughly CHECKED, and were deemed VALID.
MATTERS ARISING
BPI
Mr Hibbett had meant to do this, honest, but had forgotten to take the folder with him to work. Mr Fleay suggested it might be An Amusing Jape to get together sometime and ring up the more Massive companies and ask them if they would nominate us, possibly recording the results. He would think on't vis a vis a time to so do and a means to so record.
FIND PINKY
A response had been forthcoming – her whereabouts was unknown, and it didn't really matter anymore anyway.
ORGANISATIONAL ISSUES
WEBPAGES
All updates had been completed apart from the Newsletter. This would be done at the nearest available opportunity, after which Mr Fleay would inform the u.k.m.a. mailing list, who liked to know such things.
NEWSLETTER
The next issue would be released to coincide with the Kraken album, and so one of them would be asked to complete the Band Focus Questionnaire.
PLUGGERS
Mr Whitaker had been in touch with Lee, who had described the Kraken album as "bonkers", and was up for doing it. Mr Whitaker was to contact the Kraken and ascertain a "top figure" available for plugging, and then enter further negotiations. Meanwhile Mr Fleay would pack up some Frankie Machine singles and send them off to them.
DISTRIBUTION
Mr Whitaker had also been in touch with Paul, who really liked the Kraken album too. Paul had asked if we had any means of getting them reviews, and Mr Whitaker would ring back and ask him if he had any means of getting them some reviews.
The money from the last invoice had still not been received, and Mr Fleay would get chasing this.
FINANCE
Mr Fleay reported that £563.59 had been paid into the account from the Kraken, making up their money for the album, with about £100 being paid by the label. This left approximately £375 still in the account.
AGM ADVANCE PLANNING
In accordance with policy formulated at the Away Day, the meeting discussed ideas for the next AGM, initially agreeing in principle that it should still take place. Mr Whitaker would check his diary, and if it fell in half-term then the AGM would take place on October 22nd at the Bless, with Mr Fleay booking it. The format and content would be further discussed at the next meeting.
FOOTBALL
There was not much going on at this point, although Mr Whitaker was pleased to report that Bradford had managed to hold on to all their players.
A&R
FRANKIE MACHINE
With joy the meeting discussed hearing the new single played recently on John Peel. Hoorah! There was however puzzlement about the fact that it had not been reviewed in this month's Record Collector, and Mr Fleay stated that he might send them another copy, just to make sure it had arrived.
No gigs were forthcoming, although Mr Fleay hoped to book some, especially in Derby – his planned appearance at the VicStock All-Dayer had unfortunately coincided with him being in Nice. Finally, as was now becoming customary, he declared that he would be Getting Stuck In and Getting On With finishing off his album. Distractions were decreasing, and all fervently hoped it would appear soon.
MJ HIBBETT
Mr Hibbett reported that he had recently played solo at the Havock Junction launch at the Charlotte, and sorely missed his delightful band. He was back in the studio the next day, and again soon after to finish up current recordings and mixing, at which point approximately half the album would be FINISHED. He then moved on to discussing some new GRATE IDEAS he had had about the general Concept of the album, which one and all revelled in. Gallantly he kept this very short, even though other board members begged and pleaded with him to expand further.
JOHNNY DOMINO
Nothing had been heard from the charming Domino Boys this month,
SALOON
Their new single had been played on John Peel, and the meeting looked forward to releasing their album. Sometimes in the darkness of the night it was all that kept them going.
THE FRIGHTENED PRISONERS OF THE KRAKEN
Mr Whitaker stated that the Press Release was now jam packed with Interesting FACTS which he had drawn from them. He had also contacted A2Z, who had no problems with the artwork. Mr Fleay would be going into the studio, hopefully this week, to put in some more track markings (for song intro bit things) and make a Track Sheet, then all would be DONE and ready to go.
There followed discussion of a release date, with 20th August being mooted as the best option – Mr Whitaker would check this with Prime. He would also contact the band about plugging, and encourage them to take up the option of doing Radio Sessions. Mr Hibbett would also contact them to discuss helping them get some gigs somewhere.
The meeting then sat back and looked at each other, all excited like.
ANY OTHER A & R
THE PO BOX
Mr Fleay dealt out this month's PO Box (and other) material, with Mr Whitaker taking home a CD from Brick, and Mr Hibbett taking Rusk and Judi Willson.
THE CHEMISTRY EXPERIMENT
Mr Hibbett had recently received a CD of the proposed next Chemistry Experiment single, which as yet had no label. He would send tape copies to other Board Members to listen to, and stated that it was absolutely bloody brilliant.
CORRESPONDENCE
We had received a letter from Probe Music about advertising in their monthly London listings paper. Mr Fleay reported that the rates seemed very reasonable, and that we could well put something in there. It was agreed that he would inform the rest of the board of rates over the email, and if all agreed then AAS would pay for an advert for the Kraken's album to be placed.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
CHRISTMAS MEAL
It was agreed that we would have a Christmas Curry sometime just before Christmas in Derby, to afford maximum Disco Dancing afterwards. Mr Whitaker would check his diary again, and if 17th December was OK for him then this is when the meal would be taking place.
PROMOTIONAL BEER MATS
Mr Fleay suggested that we buy some promotional beer mats, and try and persuade a few pubs to utilise them. The meeting agreed to this frankly GRATE idea in principle, and he would get a quote just to check the price was agreeable to us.
DATE OF NEXT MEETING
The next meeting would take place at the Three Nuns, Loughborough on August 7th
