Minutes of the Meeting held 13th March 2001

APOLOGIES

Dry your tears, there’s no reason to be sorry.

MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING

Passed as VALID.

MATTERS ARISING

JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Mr Whitaker had found copies of these, and ZAPPED them to other Board Members, that they might be finished for next time.

INTERNET COMPILATION ALBUM

The lack of John Peel play for the Cuban Boys’ track was deemed ODD, especially as he had been heard on the radio recently bemoaning the lack of incoming Cubans material. Mr Fleay would consider sending him another copy. Meanwhile, Mr Hibbett confessed that he had not FACTed any internet journalists re. The Album yet, but would do so.

BPI

This would PEND.

DEMO GUIDE

This had been written and approved, and was now online.

ORGANISATIONAL ISSUES

WEBPAGES

These were merrily rolling along.

NEWSLETTER

It was agreed that this would now probably come out to coincide with the next Frankie Machine single. A Band Member focus had now been received, and Mr Hibbett put forward the idea of an AAS Competition to find a New and Exciting band to put out, which could be launched via the newsletter. He would prepare a policy document for other board members to look upon.

PLUGGERS

There was discussion about whether Mr Fleay would ask them to plug his single, or whether it might be wiser to wait until the album came out, and then do that instead. Without reaching firm conclusions, the meeting did tend more towards the latter.

DISTRIBUTION

Mr Whitaker would be getting in touch with them very soon to secure a release data for AAS029.

FINANCE

Mr Fleay reported gleefully that, through Prudence and Planning, the finances were now pretty much totally in order. He presented recent sales sheets, and would be invoicing Prime soon for this money. Meanwhile, Mr Whitaker would contact Left-Legged Pineapple, to see if they had sold any of the experimentally online released MJ Hibbett single.

AWAY DAY

It was agreed that this be held at the same place as last year, the Millstone Inn in Hathersage on April 28th/29th. Mr Hibbett would get in touch, and attempt to book the Family Room again.

FOOTBALL

Gently and carefully the meeting discussed prospects for the end of the season for their various interested teams, some employing more stoicism than others.

A&R

FRANKIE MACHINE

The Machine had played two gigs, one good, one less so, and had had to cancel their London gig due to the Horrors of Mr Fleay’s recent illness, bless. It was agreed that gigging was a Good Thing for them, to REACH OUT to fresh new audiences, and Mr Fleay would try and book them some more in Bath, Birmingham and, maybe, Derby, while Mr Hibbett would try London.

The single was now done and ready, and Mr Fleay proudly showed the cover off, which he had done himself – the Portugese fellow previously engaged would now probably be doing the album cover. It would soon be off to the Czechs, then ready to be released. Mr Hibbett would write a press release, utilising review quotes from the webpage, which Mr Whitaker would then FACT with copies to Prime. The meeting agreed that it was jolly exciting, and that they looked forward to this slab of blue tinged beauty being amongst The Kids.

Finally, Mr Fleay reported that he expected the album to be completed some time in the summer. At present he was like unto a child with a large jigsaw, as he had recorded or at least knew all of the songs that would be on it, and had gazillions of interlinking bits to use, but it all needed putting together. He did not deny the possibility of some talking at the start, like on that Frank Sinatra album. Cool.

MJ HIBBETT

Mr Hibbett formally formalised his decision not to put “You Will Be Hearing From My Solicitor” out as a single after all, and reported that the band would soon be going into the studio to record some more, including “Easily Impressed.” Mr Fleay suggested that they try and record this well, and it was quite good, and also it might be the replacement single. A band meeting had also recently occurred, with the Validators agreeing to more recording. And some gigs.

Meanwhile, Mr Hibbett announced that he had bought the domain www.mjhibbett.com, which was now FUNCTIONING, and that he had played some gigs recently, which had been mixed but FUN anyway. Finally, he would soon be in the studio recording a session for CUR, during which he hoped to do a little more work on the album also.

JOHNNY DOMINO

Nobody had heard from them lately.

SALOON

There was some discussion of the band, which somehow led to a long excitable shout about the merits of The Chemistry Experiment.

DENVER & CARWASH

Mr Whitaker reported that they were now thinking about people, not machinery, for this project. They were not sure where exactly to go, as they hoped to spend 3 days in the studio and see what occurred. Mr Fleay suggested he speak to Jyoti, as that would be Good.

ANY OTHER A & R

THE TEENBEAT

Mr Hibbett had contacted them, and awaited a response.

DERBY BANDS

In an effort to enact pro-active A&R, Mr Fleay would be going to see a succession of Derby bands over the current month, including Rusk, Hydra and Terra Shima. The meeting wished him well.

VIC TWENTY

Vic had recently recorded a song for The Flyer Tigers.

WANDRIN’ ALLSTARS

Fantastically, the band had actually started 4 new tracks, but, as with so many groups, they were looking for a lady singer.

CORRESPONDENCE

Other than that already mentioned, there hadn’t really been any.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

FIND PINKY

Mr Whitaker wished to Find Pinky (formerly of The Fighting Cocks) to see if she could sing for his project. Mr Fleay suggested he contact Pauly Popex, as he might know.

DATE OF NEXT MEETING

The next meeting would take place at the Three Nuns, Loughborough at 8.00pm on April 10th.
