Minutes of the Meeting held 14th November 2000

APOLOGIES

Ain’t nobody apologising for nothing

MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING

Passed as VALID.

MATTERS ARISING

MCPS/PPL

Mr Hibbett reported that we had now been allocated an ISRC number. Ooh! Lucky us! Brains would be engaged as to what this actually meant the next time a physical record was released.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Wriggling like a rocking worm, Mr Fleay pleaded that he had meant to do this that afternoon, honest. PEND.

AGM

All agreed that this had indeed been a beautiful event. Mr Hibbett presented a report on the event for validation, and it was agreed that the Lessons Learnt, prepared by Mr Fleay, would be incorporated into it, that next year’s event would be even GRATER.

INTERNET COMPILATION ALBUM

This was now all DONE and finished, and to mark the event Mr Fleay presented the board with CD copies. Mr Hibbett had done some covers, but had forgotten to bring them – he would post them to Mr Fleay forthwith. Once the agreed 20 had been finished, copies would be given to each of the bands, with the remainder going to John Peel, Gary Smith in Bristol, Steve Lamacq and Xfm, with Mr Fleay consulting The Band Stumble to see who it would be best to send to. It was agreed that this month’s homework would be to plug the album a bit more – Mr Hibbett would email newspapers’ computer columnists, while Mr Whitaker suggested sending actual old-fashioned letters to the feckless journalists on the music papers. He would prepare a list of people to send to, and Mr Hibbett would FACT him the existing press release. Meanwhile, Mr Fleay would work on his INSIDE CONTACT at Radio 1, to see if we could get it actually played at some point.

ORGANISATIONAL ISSUES

WEBPAGES

It was suggested that it might be groovy to have a link directly to the compilation album on the front page, and the meeting agreed that this might be good policy for all future releases. There was then discussion of a further rejig, to bring the content of the newsletter onto the front pages, rather than leaving them static. Mr Hibbett would prepare a prototype version, using RAD methodology, for some alpha and beta testing. Oh yes.

NEWSLETTER

It was agreed that it would be nice to have a Christmas Issue this year. Thus, it will be so.

PLUGGERS

Mr Fleay had not got around to sending Overground a copy of his single yet, and Mr Hibbett would FACT him their address, that it might be so.

DISTRIBUTION

Mr Whitaker had spoken to Paul that very afternoon, and they had agreed that they would be waiting until the New Year before pursuing Saloon too much further. SALES information had been received, and Mr Whitaker was pleased to report that the Frankie Machine single had so far had about 100 sales, which was remarkable in these times of bugger all vinyl sales. The MJ Hibbett single, out on the following Monday, had slightly less remarkably sold nearly 30, but still, eh?

FINANCE

Carefully and precisely Mr Fleay went through the Bank Statement, demonstrating his knowledge of every transaction, and expressing the brain chafing that was the missing May invoice, which would tell us who had had returns. There was brief discussion of rising the Tithe to account for inflation, but this was put on the back burner for the moment.

FOOTBALL

Once again there was great discussion about who was the most shit, Derby or Bradford, with much debate over the outcome of their forthcoming match. This was followed by even more discussion about Stan Collymore, in a manner reminiscent of BURDS telling one of their number to steer clear of a ROGUE they had all had dealings with, with her replying that she was sure he had changed this time. It was pointed out that Posh were looking secure mid-table.

A&R

FRANKIE MACHINE

Mr Fleay reported that the band had had a brilliant time on tour, thoroughly enjoying themselves, and the rest of the Board confirmed that reports from all who had seen them were at least GLOWING, and at most frankly embarrassing. There was a HUNGER for more gigs, and the possibility of a Christmas gig was mulled over – Mr Fleay thought maybe they might try the Bull & Gate, and Mr Hibbett would FACT him their address.

Gloriously, Mr Fleay stated that he would be embarking on album recordings very soon, hopefully aiming for a release in the first half of the new year. This would be a mix of solo recordings as of old, with some ACTION from his new combo.

Finally, it was reported that the Musician’s Union chap would happily write to the American Frankie Machine’s solicitor, to ask for some compensation if he needed to change his name, once Mr Fleay had prepared the list of expenses which would be accrued if this became necessary.

MJ HIBBETT

Mr Hibbett had also just finished his tour, and had had a GRATE time. He was hoping to do something similar next February, and would start trying to get it sorted in the next week. He referred the Board to his webpage, which included a Tour Diary mostly complaining about the state of the railways. Mr Whitaker informed the meeting that “A Church Hall Of Sound (revisited)” would be out on Monday, and Mr Hibbett stated that The Validators would be rehearsing the day after, with recording seven days later. He hoped to have “You Will Be Hearing From My Solicitor” ready for release early in the New Year, and to carry on sessions towards a new album.

JOHNNY DOMINO

The new single “Carry On Domino” was now out, on a Nottingham Label who, apparently, wished to be as GRATE as us. Bless. It was a GlamTastic Triumph Of Stomp. They had also started recording a new album, which they apparently intended to release only through the Interweb.

SALOON

Mr Fleay had received a letter from Adam, stating that they would be demoing the album at the start of December, so we should have copies of it shortly after - hoorah! Meanwhile, in their continuing quest to release ALL SINGLES RELEASED, they had ANOTHER new single out, called “Impact”, very soon.

DENVER & CARWASH

Mr Whitaker had been introduced to Mat ex-Guided at the AGM, and was overjoyed to meet a Metaller who had been to Acid House Parties in the 80’s. He had also spoken to Bobby Denver, and they were confident that their next project would be emerging next summer.

VIC TWENTY

A Vic Twenty track had been recorded! Mr Fleay reported that “Do The Pony” was MENTAL, and that once a second track had been completed a tape would be forwarded to board members.

CORRESPONDENCE

The usual quota of email nutters had been in touch. Mr Fleay asked to go on record as imploring anybody sending us email NOT to send MP3s, as it buggers everything up. Thank you.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS

VOON REUNION

Mr Hibbett invited the Board to Sorted Supremo Dave Dixey’s Birthday Bash on the 29th, which would be featuring a Voon Reunion. Official Invites would be forwarded soon.

DATE OF NEXT MEETING

The next meeting would take place, as was becoming traditional for the festive season, not in the usual place and not in the evening, but rather has an excuse for getting pissed during the VOID between Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve. THUS the next meeting would take place on December 28th, at 3.00pm, in Derby’s Victoria Inn.
