![]() | Minutes of the Meeting held 18th March 2000 |
| ACTION | ||
| APOLOGIES | ||
| Mr Whitaker apologised for over-sleeping and delaying the meeting, but this was FINE as it had allowed the rest of the board to watch that programme about Richard Beckinsale. | ||
| MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING | ||
| Accepted as VALID. | ||
| MATTERS ARISING | ||
| Reports were heard on the following items: | ||
| MCPS/PPL | ||
| Mr Hibbett had looked at this for quite a while, with little understanding arising from it. He had seen a thing stating that small companies putting out their own music (or small companies only registering music put out by board members, as would be the case here) need not register. Mr Whitaker pointed out that thus it was the PPL section that needed investigating, and Mr Hibbett would attempt so to do. | MH | |
| AAS GOLD DISC | ||
| With humour levels now evaporated, it was agreed that this be gently put away in a drawer somewhere. | ||
| DOMAIN NAME PLACE | ||
| The meeting agreed that this was a Good Idea, but hardly vital at present, and should therefore also be dropped. The PLAN was accepted throughout the meeting that items which seemed to just dangle on the agenda should be dropped, to make future meetings in our third year of operation even more of a platoon of lean, mean, meeting machines. | ||
| NEWSLETTER MAILING LIST | ||
| This would be DONE. | RF | |
| JOB DESCRIPTIONS | ||
| PEND on until next time. | RF MW | |
| INTERNET MUSIC TYPES | ||
| This was looking good – Mr Fleay had received a contract for them, and reported that they seemed to be Jolly Nice Chaps. He needed to clear up whether the rights to the songs would be non-exclusive and non-transferable, then all would be well. Material by MJH&V’s and Frankie Machine was ready to send to start with, with Mr Whitaker discussing it with the Wandrin’ Allstars,. Mr Hibbett the Fighting Cocks. and Mr Fleay Johnny Domino, Lazer Guided and Saloon. | MW MH RF | |
| ORGANISATIONAL ISSUES | ||
| The following label-based issues were discussed: | ||
| WEBPAGES | ||
| There was some discussion of a redesign to the webpages, though the general banner look was rather liked. Messrs Whitaker and Fleay would glance through for a gentle reevaluation. | MW RF | |
| WEB CONSULTANCY | ||
| Training had been given, and orders were starting to come in. HOLA! | ||
| NEWSLETTER | ||
| The next issue would go in the next week, to coincide with the PWWMPC. | MH | |
| PLUGGERS | ||
| Overground were POISED for ACTION, and were just waiting on the arrival of the Johnny Domino albums. | ||
| DISTRIBUTION | ||
| Mr Whitaker had rung Gareth three times, finding him “too busy”, and had emailed twice with no response. Overall, with everything taken into account from the most recent sales figures, we were owed Ł56. The 6 month returns period was no over, and he would be asked to either return our entire stock to us, or pay for it. Mr Fleay would invoice them for what was owed, and Mr Whitaker would exert further pressure for the stock. | RF MW | |
| On a happier note, Prime were then spoken of. Sales figures had been received, and it was noted that the Wandrin’ Allstars single had done very well although, oddly, it appeared to have been sold to shops for nothing! Mr Whitaker would check this out. Sales were given for about three months, and it was noted that for both the Wandrin’ Allstars and Frankie Machine, they had continued after the release date, hinting that Prime had Actually Been Plugging the Catalogue. ACE. | MW | |
| FINANCE | ||
| It was agreed that the cost of sending stock to Prime would be divided between the bands concerned, divided by WEIGHT, and taken from sales. Meanwhile Mr Hibbett had paid the Ł100 from the Fighting Cocks into his account, and would transfer it to the company account a.s.a.p. | MH | |
| AWAY DAY/AGM | ||
| It was noted that the board were now sitting in a lovely pub in the Peak District, the Plough Inn near Haversage, which turned out to be GRATE. Thus it could be said that the Away Day was occurring. The AGM would be scheduled when CASH was available. | ||
| ABBEY PARK | ||
| Mr Hibbett reported that forms, somewhere, were being completed, and we would wait and see what happened next. | ||
| FOOTBALL | ||
| Having just watched the results on the telly in the pub, the board was sad to report that Bradford had just lost 4-0. The meeting then debated whether Mr Fleay, from the Derby end of the table, only sang when he was winning. | ||
| A&R | ||
| Bands and Ting were talked of, as follows: | ||
| FRANKIE MACHINE | ||
| With GLEE, Mr Fleay reported he had embarked upon the next set of recordings, having 5 tracks started off, mainly requiring vocals for completion. He hoped to complete the EP in 2 more sessions, for release in the summer time. | ||
| MJ HIBBETT & THE VALIDATORS | ||
| The only thing to report outside of the PWWMPC was that the spare track “Mr Right” was to appear on a forthcoming Sorted compilation album. | ||
| JOHNNY DOMINO | ||
| Similarly there was nothing much to report outside of the PWWMPC. | ||
| LAZER GUIDED | ||
| The Board had been privileged to listen to the new single on the way to the meeting, and had deemed the second track to be their favourite. Plans for a migration to Manchester were well in hand, with Joanne off to Australia soon and Mat joining a MYSTERY BAND who were a SECRET. | ||
| SALOON | ||
| Their single, Song For Hugo, was out real soon on Amberley, and an email had been received from young Adam detailed the frankly ROCK antics they had been undertaking on tour. Bless. | ||
| THE WANDRIN’ ALLSTARS | ||
| There was nothing to report – machinery may have actually been switched on, but this could not be proven. | ||
| COMPILATION ALBUM | ||
| As usual there was nothing to report, and it was agreed that in the spirit of crisp efficiency this be removed from the agenda until such time as it was actually likely to ever happen. | ||
| ANY OTHER A&R | ||
| SONGS IN THE KEY OF SEA | ||
| The Board agreed that Concept EPs would be a Good Idea to be discussed during the BRANESTORMING session later, but that perhaps sea shanties wasn’t such a good idea after all. | ||
| HELTER SKELTER | ||
| Mr Hibbett had brought a CD with him for borrowing, and had emailed the band to say they were GOOD. | ||
| JIMMY POSSESSION | ||
| Again, the board had listened to this on the way, and found it Good, though some were better than others. Especially that one with the bloke explaining stereo. | ||
| ELECTRIC DRUIDS | ||
| Mr Whitaker had especially enjoyed this, as it was the sort of thing he really wanted to put out, although he had been turned off by the vocals. Mr Hibbett reported that they now had a new vocalist, and would seek evidence of same. | MH | |
| DEATHSQUAD | ||
| Mr Fleay had enjoyed this. He’d thought it was funny. | ||
| THE “PLAYERS WITH WORDS” MASSIVE PROMOTIONAL CAMPAIGN | ||
| Due to the vast problems with Voyager and ESPECIALLY their cnuttish manufacturers, Say It With Words had been delivered late, as had Players. There had been much stress all round, and it was agreed that we would not be using them again. The cnuttish nature of the manufactures in Birmingham was also forcibly restated. Anyway, it was all done now, with 36 review copies about to be sent out. The big list of these promo copies was to be divvied up between Mr Hibbett and the Domino for harassment purposes, with Mr Whitaker also taking some on. Gigs were now lined up, and so the PWWMPC entered it’s FINAL STAGE, something which all were most glad of. | ||
| CORRESPONDENCE | ||
| There had been none. | ||
| ANY OTHER BUSINESS | ||
| ISSUES FOR THE AWAY DAY | ||
| It was agreed that the Board would discuss the following issues: | ||
| Aims and Objectives | ||
| DATE OF NEXT MEETING | ||
| The next meeting would be on the 18th of April at 7.00pm in the Three Nuns, Loughborough. |
