Minutes of the Meeting held 27th September 1999

ACTION
APOLOGIES
There were no apologies
MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING
Agreed as VALID. Speed of VALIDATION was noted to have been really quick this time too, which was GRATE.
MATTERS ARISING
Reports were heard on the following items:
MCPS/PPL
In a nostalgic return to the last meeting, this would pend again.MW
BULL AND GATE CONTACTING
The last gig at the Bull & Gate had gone OK, even though not very many people had been there. As stated previously, Mr Hibbett would, as advised, FACT Fierce Panda with some samples of our lovely bands.
MH
VALID STAMP
This would pend until next time. Again.MH
MP3s
It was agreed that, rather than putting whole songs up, we would put specific samples on, as this would take less space. This would be monitored, and we would See How It Goes.
RF
MIND THE GAP
Stuff had been sent off, and a response was expected soon. Mr Hibbett pledged to remember to inform Mr Fleay about sales this time.MH
ACTION
WRITING TO THE LOTTERY
It turned out that the person that Mr Fleay was going to contact about this had now changed jobs. The board agreed that it was a bit late now, and also that no-one could really be bothered with it any more.
AAS GOLD DISC
Mr Fleay had MADE the Gold Disc now, and reported that it looked BRILLIANT. He pledged to take it into the shop soon, and get a photograph of the ensuing PRESENTATION.
RF
ORGANISATIONAL ISSUES
The following label-based issues were discussed:
WEBPAGES
The Fuckwits Asking Questions section had now been installed, much to the glee of all present. It was noted that the web counter sometimes got knackered, and so we may have had more hits than noted, but hey, who's counting?

It was agreed that a new section be set up for Photographs. This would include things like the signing session, the forthcoming Gold Disc presentation, and the GRATE picture of the Cuban Boys wearing AAS t-shirts alongside Mr J Peel.

MH
WEB CONSULTANCY
The shop was now open, and Mr Fleay had been giving ASSISTANCE with the PCs therein. He stated that the Web Consultancy Exercise was now looking more Imminent, and in fact would commence next week.
RF
NEWSLETTER
It was agreed that the next issue need not come out too soon, but that when it did it would be the turn of a member of Saloon to complete the Band Member Focus.
PLUGGERS
The Wandrin' Allstars report had been received, and was looked upon.
DISTRIBUTION
There was much discussion. Some people had had problems getting hold of the Saloon/Lazer Guided, but they seem to have nearly all been sold now. There had been a lot of returns this month, perhaps coming from Virgin in Derby maybe.

There followed a LOT of discussion.
FINANCE
Mr Fleay reported that he had Mentally Designed his MIGHTY SPREADSHEET (of love), and promised that when it was done (as it would soon be) it would be a Fantastic Instrument Of Accounting, and might even be able to do GRAPHS.

RF
QUALITY MANUAL
Mr Whitaker had drawn up some rough job descriptions, which he believed would be a helpful start point for the manual - working out what people actually did would show us what we as a Record Company actually did. It would also lead to a greater focus on tasks, better interaction, and more information for individual board members or the work of the others. There was some Upset by Certain Board Member that the task "Getting drunk and showing off" had not been included, and it was agreed that each Board Member would write up his own Job Description for next time.

ALL
FOOTBALL
Mr Whitaker stated "Aaah! One Nil! One Nil!" and Mr Fleay was Upset, but took it well. There was MUCH further discussion upon this matter.
A&R
Bands and Ting were talked of, as follows:
LAZER GUIDED/SALOON
Mr Fleay reported that Saloon had been really good and sent out tons of copies of the single to various people. Meanwhile, it was reported that Lazer Guided had attracted the ATTENTION of Amberley records, who wished to put out their single after next, causing the band to want to do another fairly sharpish. It was also reported that they would be GIGGING with The Domino on the 11th at the Vic, and Board Members would attempt to get there and Get It On.
THE FIGHTING COCKS
There was a deal of CONSTERNATION about the further delays to this project, and it was felt that this really HAD to get sorted out, lest we look DAFT. This was ESPECIALLY important for the move to Prime - we did not want to get all Dressed Up for the (hopefully) new distributors, only to have to delay our first release with them (AGANE). THUS Mr Hibbett would contact Charlie Cock and get it SORTED OUT. He pledged to do this SOONEST.

MH
WANDRIN' ALLSTARS
Mr Whitaker reported that they had now moved the Studio into a New Flat, and would be doing remixes of Twinkie and Pala. He asked Mr Fleay if he Fancied One, and Mr Fleay pledged to Consider It.
RF
STUMBLE
It was reported that Ollie had now LEFT, and that THUS Stevie would be taking on the task of vocalising. The Board would look on with interest to see what effect this had on the DYNAMIC, as the band were planning a few gigs in the near future to get used to it. Meanwhile this whole business of a single seemed a bit unclear - it might have been a track on a shop listening post or something. Nobody seemed to know.
PALA
Pala would be recording SOON, and hoped to have their new single out in January, though Mr Whitaker had raised fears over possible Y2K problems. Contrary to reports previously, they now planned to return to the bosom of AAS. In his position of Finance MAN, Mr Fleay raised the issue of apparent inconsistencies with regards to the amount that the band had sold at Gigs etc., and the amount that Mr Whitaker had received as a co-funder. Mr Whitaker stated that he didn't really like to ask, but would endeavour so to do.

MW
JOHNNY DOMINO
The recording, as ever, continued, though Mr Fleay reported that he had sorted them out with a Split Single! More details of this would follow in the next item. The Board expressed hope and concern that they would be putting the eventual album out on AAS, and Mr Fleay stated that, as far as he was aware, this would hopefully be the case.
MJ HIBBETT & THE VALIDATORS
Mr Hibbett reported with GLEE that the mixing of the album was really really nearly finished now, expecting it all to be done within a week or two. Tapes would then be sent out to The Focus Group, and the final decision on tracks would be made sometime in November. He had hoped to put it out on Vinyl, but the Board cautioned against this, as yet fewer people would be likely to buy it. He also stated that he had PLANS for its release, including a Bunch Of Gigs and some Proper and Co-Ordinated publicity.
Much more excitingly, it was revealed that the split single previously mentioned would be with MJ Hibbett and the Validators! This was really really EXCITING. He had spoken to Tom Reveal, who stated that it would be a Good Idea, and would probably be a release of 400 copies on vinyl. Mr Hibbett would forward a tape with about 4 possibilities to Mr Reveal, who would select his favourite.

MH
And still there was more NEWS! Mr Hibbett proposed doing ANOTHER single, this time as an Internet Only Single. He explained his IDEA (which, to be fair, he had got from Ear Confection Recordings) that rather than just stick up some songs for download, they be parceled up as a single, with cover, lyrics, b-sides, the LOT. Having previously VALIDATED the aborted "Hey Hey 16K" single, the Board were happy to do so again for this Exciting New Venture. Mr Hibbett would get it set up and the Board would Look Upon It, before release. It was allocated the catalogue number AAS024
FRANKIE MACHINE
And thus it was Mr Fleay's turn to get EXCITED and bounce gently off the plush satin seating. He reported that all of the SEGUES had now been done, and everything was ready to GO. The Board had gleefully VALIDATED this record over the email, and there was discussion again about when it would be best to release it. It was agreed that The Advice Of Paul be considered before a decision was released.

Mr Whitaker had asked Adam from Taking Pictures about doing the sleeve to the record, and he had been happy to do so. However, this one was all ready finished, though, in his EXCITEMENT, Mr Fleay was already thinking about doing another, and would be very interested in such an experiment. He then launched into a fever of glee at the prospect of releasing it on ORANGE vinyl, requesting, and receiving, VALIDATION to have an orange label too.
There was discussion about possible giggage for Frankie Machine, with the Usual Venues perhaps being unsuitable for such a Gentle and Intimate Sound. The 12 Bar Club was suggested, which FREAKED OUT Mr Fleay as he had been thinking the self-same thing. Mr Hibbett would look into it. Finally, Mr Fleay stated that the Frankie Machine website was on the way. It would be nice and simple with not a lot on it, though he was considering doing a JIVE BUNNY MIX of the single to be downloaded.

RF
PROJECT B
She had accepted our offers, but the Board decided to refuse here, because she's not cool anymore.
COMPILATION ALBUM
As usual, nothing much was happening with this. However, Mr Fleay stated that the Web Consultancy might provide the CAPITAL for it to become a reality once more.
ANY OTHER A&R
Mr Fleay had not yet received a tape from Submarine, as they had disagreed about which song should be a single. They were, however, still quite keen on the idea. He had also heard from Steve from Denver from Durham who, along with A Bloke from The Lavender Faction, had a new project called Kosmonaut. He was shopping stuff around, but might come to us at a later date. Mr Fleay reported that he was A Nice Bloke.
CORRESPONDENCE
Stuff had now been sent to the French radio station previously mentioned. Meanwhile we had been asked about contributing to a Farfisa Tribute Album, which seemed rather RUM.
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
SPLIT SCREEN VAN CLUB
Mr Whitaker reported that Mr Eccles had booked Stumble again for these festivals, and asked if any of our other bands did That Sort Of Thing and could be put forward. After some thought, Mr Fleay suggested alerting him to 1.3 Billion who, as he stated, were Up For The Crack.
THE RIGHTS OF BAND REPRESENTATIVES
Mr Fleay reported that Mr (S) Woodward had requested that, as Band Representative for Johnny Domino, he be alerted to the next meeting, that he might attend. Mr Fleay would extend to him an Invitation.
WEBPAGE PAYING
Mr Fleay had not altered his TITHE for the preceding month because, although the Change To Webpages had Occurred, he had also expended expenditure to a similar degree upon the Gold Disc. This was agreed as VALID, and he would alter the TITHE for the future.

RF
MUSIC LIVE
Mr Hibbett had asked for some information about this event, which would be on the way soon.
T-SHIRTS
Mr Fleay asked Mr Hibbett to FACT him one next time they met, for presentation to one of the Designated Human BillBoards.MH
DATE OF NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be at 6.30pm (due to TRAINS) on October 26th in the Brunswick, Derby.
